Our Story
British Audio Technologies was founded by Matt Sartori with a simple goal: to create vintage-inspired professional audio equipment that captures the character, craftsmanship and engineering excellence of classic recording technology while meeting the demands of modern studios.
Our passion for audio engineering comes from a deep appreciation of the equipment that helped shape recorded music. After years spent working with vintage audio gear, studying classic circuits and restoring professional equipment, we saw an opportunity to build products that honoured these designs while embracing modern reliability and manufacturing standards.
Today, we design, assemble and test every BAT product in the United Kingdom. We combine proven vintage circuit topologies with meticulous modern manufacturing techniques to create equipment that recording engineers can depend on for years to come.
Inspired by Classic Recording Equipment
The best audio equipment often stands the test of time.
Legendary designs such as the Altec 1588 and Telefunken V676 continue to inspire engineers decades after their introduction. Their enduring reputation is not built on nostalgia alone, but on thoughtful engineering, robust construction and exceptional sonic performance.
At BAT, we draw inspiration from these classic designs while refining them for modern workflows. Our aim is not to recreate the past exactly, but to preserve the qualities that made these circuits so respected in the first place.

Designed for Music Creators
We develop every BAT product for real-world recording applications.
Rather than chasing trends or unnecessary features, we focus on practical engineering, robust construction and sonic performance. Every design decision serves a purpose and supports the needs of recording engineers, producers and music creators.
Whether you are recording vocals, acoustic instruments or full productions, our equipment is built to deliver reliable performance, musical character and intuitive operation.
The BAT 1588 vintage-inspired audio equipment
The BAT 1588 microphone preamplifier takes inspiration from the revered Altec 1588C.
We refined the design to suit modern recording environments while preserving the character and musicality that engineers love about classic transformer-coupled circuits. The result is a hand-built microphone preamp that combines vintage-inspired tone with the consistency and flexibility expected in today’s studios.
The BAT 1588 reflects our approach to product design: respect the engineering principles that work, improve what can be improved and never compromise on build quality.
Built by Hand in Britain
We believe professional audio equipment should be built to last.
We assemble, test and verify every unit before it leaves our workshop. From component selection to final calibration, we apply the same attention to detail that defined the most respected audio equipment of the past.
This hands-on approach allows us to maintain the quality, consistency and reliability that recording professionals depend on. By building our products in the UK, we retain complete control over the manufacturing process and ensure every unit meets our standards.
Sharing Audio Engineering Knowledge
BAT is more than a manufacturer of audio equipment.
We are also committed to sharing technical knowledge with the wider audio community. Through our articles and resources, we explore topics such as microphone preamp design, gain staging, transformer-coupled circuits, vintage audio restoration and professional recording techniques.
Our goal is simple: help music creators and engineers better understand the technology behind the equipment they use every day.
